New Years Goals

Instead of setting goals to stop doing things, I'm making all my goals about things I want to accomplish and start doing this year.

2010 goals:

1. Take more pictures
2. get back into blogging (hence goal #1)
3. Read more classic books- I actually think I'm going to start with the Lord of the Ring series
4. Spend more time serving others. I find I'm happiest when I am helping other people. I'd like to try to do one thing for someone else a week, whether big or small.
And the biggest one of all.....
5. Take the initial steps to start a family (although this probablly won't happen till fall 2010).

The best way to accomplish goals is to have a plan, so now here is my plan for accomplishing goals 1-5:
1. Leave the camera out on the mantle so that it is easily accessable. But probablly most importantly, try my best to live in the moment and not look towards the end of the day. I think I'll find more and more picture opportunities if I can learn to chill out a bit.
2. Use the first weekend of every month to blog about the past month. This ensures that I have at least one blog a month, and if I get more motivation, I can always do more.
3. Find a list of American classic books, pick 5 to start with, and Read Read Read! I'd love to read more, but I also have a ton of books by my favorite current authors that I want to read too.
4. Spend Sunday afternoons thinking about my friends, family, coworkers, what is going on in their lives, and determine how I can serve/encourage one of them. This also means that I must increase the frequency of my correspondence with said people so that I know more about their lives and their needs.
5. Well.....I'm not going to elaborate on that plan :>).

Sounds like a great plan. I'm especially excited for your baby making plans. I am sure there are some good books for that, too ... :)

I usually get around to reading classics in the summer time and Sarah and I have a read a few together the last couple years (although neither of us finished Anna Karenina this summer) and I would love it if we did it all together! You might check out Susan Wise Bauer's "The Well Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had" for both book lists and reading tips.
