Yesterday we had our two week pediatrician check up. Last time we were there, Calvin weighed an even 7 pounds. He lost about 10 ounces after birth, which is very normal. Of course, I was fretting a little during the past two weeks about whether or not he was getting enough during each feeding. Our doc appt yesterday confirmed that he was.
He's a hefty 8 pounds 4.5 ounces! Woo Hoo! Go Calvin!
Dr. J was very pleased with the weight and said everything was right on track. Our first appt with Dr. J was all business...the office was very busy and running behind as many patients were there for camp physicals and summer immunizations. Yesterday we got to see a little of Dr. J's personality, and I think I'm going to be very pleased with him. Calvin was a little fussy during the appt yesterday, and it was so sweet to see Dr. J comfort and soothe him. He also showed me a trick to help reduce incidents of spitting up, and each time I've done it, Calvin hasn't spit up, which is great for mom who thinks spit up is grosser then dirty diapers!
We've continued to have a good stream of visitors, with a few days to ourselves in between.
Our dear friends, Lauren and Nate Young, came up from Houston for a quick trip to meet Calvin. It meant the world to me that they would make the trip. Lauren is preggers as well and due mid July, so I know traveling for her isn't the most comfortable thing. It was great to see them and I can't wait to go down to Houston in July to meet Luke.
Here we all are...me and my besties with my son.
We also had a couple of people from work drop by (with dinner!) to meet Calvin. For some reason I didn't get their faces in any of the pics, but this is Stephanie and Nancy, each with Calvin. It was fun to see them as well. I'm planning on taking Calvin up to work next week to show him off.
We also were very excited to have a photo shoot with my cousin Lorie Beth this week. Lorie and her mom, my Aunt Carol, had planned a trip out to TX from where they live in CA several months ago, and as things panned out, Calvin's due date fell on the dates of their trip. Lorie is a fantastic photog extraordinaire, and so I was thrilled to have her take some pics of Calvin and of our new family. I had to post these few pictures of her going to great lengths just to get the perfect shot.
We've actually had TWO newborn photo sessions, the other with my sister in law, Lydia, who is also a photog extraordinaire. Lydia and Lorie have different styles, so I'm pumped to have such a variety to choose from.
Other updates on the babe this week...
We've introduced Calvin to his swing, and he seems to enjoy it. We've also had our first successful bottle feeding, which is very encouraging because it means I can actually plan to leave the house for more than a couple hours in the future :>). Dave also let me go out alone and run some errands. I cherish alone time. Often, when Dave has a meeting or is getting together with friends, I look forward to just a few hours alone in the house to myself. I realize my alone time will take on a different tune now, but it was nice to go do a few things on my own terms.
I'm continuing to feel better and better each day. I anticipate to have made a full recovery by the end of week three. I'm still taking it easy and trying to rest my body as much as possible. I have to give glory to God on this one. I prayed intently for a delivery that would not leave my body traumatized, and He answered that prayer. Compared to many people that I've spoken with, my personal injuries were very minor, and I'm so thankful that the Lord had mercy on me and has allowed me to get back on my feet sooner rather then later.
That's it for now. Check back later for a special First Father's Day post!
